Rickenbacker 4001 bass with soft case
Here we have a rare beast. Excellent condition vintage 70’s bass. Supplied with a ‘Protection Racket’ super deluxe quality soft foam case aka hard soft case aka pod case
This is really good condition for the year.
Recent service, great playability for an old bass.
8/10 dents and scratches.
Body – a few dents on the front and rear, several scratches, some deeper than others. Generally from a few feet away it actually looks very tidy indeed. See photo’s for one of the typical dents.
Rear – dents and scratches, some light buckle rash. The worst of the dents is near the neck joint – see photos.
Neck – fingerboard is looking great. A few dents and scratches, but nothing that affects the playing of this awesome bass. The rear has some light dents too, again nothing too significant.
The frets are original and in average condition. Several light dimples and flat spots – see photo as an example. To be expected on a bass of this age and about average.
Hardware – the bridge is lightly pitted and worn / lightly corroded. It has been lightly cleaned and is looking pretty good for it’s age and is in good working order.
The machineheads are slightly tarnished and pitted lightly, but original and working well.
Nut is clean and looking good.
Electrics – tested and in reasonable working order. The jack sockets work but do crackle if you jiggle the cable too much. Not a major expense to get that fixed but the bass is being sold with this as an advisory and priced accordingly. Not 100% sure if the sockets are original.
The rest of the electrics seem to be all original and in surprisingly good working order. You must expect the odd crackle and scratch now and again but generally speaking the electrics are in good working order.
Playability: we take pride in our instruments here, we love playing them, and love setting them up so they play to the best of their ability. This particular bass has been set up with a slightly lower than factory set action, and had all the usual tests, set ups and inspections: action, truss rod, intonation, electrics etc. Set ups can be a personal thing but we like to set them up as WE like them, and 99% of the time it’s how you love them too!
SUMMARY – this bass really is a collectors piece. It’s in rather good condition and with great playability.
