USED Ibanez J Custom RG ART-1 VERY RARE!
Hi I’m Chris (MD, Guitar Mania), and I want to thank you for viewing this product. Guitar Mania is a small family run tradition bricks n mortar shop with a front door, til, phone and real people, offering a very personal service ;o)
It’s business, but it’s personal, so your order really matters to me! Thank you!
Summary:
The RG ART-1 is an RG series solid body electric guitar model offered by Ibanez in 1997. They were produced in Japan by FujiGen as part of the upscale J Custom line.
The most striking feature of the RG-ART1 is its multicolor geometric design. It has a basswood body with a 7mm thick flame maple top with natural binding bolted to a maple Wizard neck with a 24-fret maple fingerboard with a special geometric mirror inlay at the 12th fret. Components include dual DiMarzio humbucking pickups, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines and Free-lock strap locks.
More info:
Body Condition: 7.5/10 – Okay so once we get past how amazing this instrument is the body does exhibit a few dumps and dings ( I have captured the worst of these in the photos) I wouldn’t say there is anything major or anything that looks like it would chip/flake and get worse. The body has no cracking in the neck pocket which is very good for an Ibanez from this era. Pretty much every single one we’ve had (which is a lot!) has always had the lacquer cracks. The back of the body does show some scratches, but yet again nothing you wouldn’t expect to find on a used Black gloss finished guitar.
Neck: 8/10 – Very minimal wear on the frets, some light scuffs to the back of the neck. Years and years of life left in the frets though. The neck has a couple of scuffs in the back that you can vaguely feel while playing but they do not affect the playing experience of the guitar at all! A couple of bumps in the top of the headstock but nothing major, bear in mind the guitar is 27 years old now.
Hardware: 8/10 – All original hardware minus the locking nuts which have been replaced from brass ones, the original Cosmo ones are very easy to source though should the guitars new owner wish to put the guitar back to stock. The trem works perfectly is the original LO-Pro Edge ( the best locking trem
ever made in our opinion) it does show some tarnishing on the tremolo unit, machine heads and control knobs.
Electrics: 9/10
Sockets, pots and switches etc are wear and tear items. The electrics on this guitar have been tested and are in very good working order, but my standard disclaimer is it’s a used guitar and one must expect SOME occasional electrical ‘scratching’ noise, crackling and popping when adjusting pots and switches. When we tested it, this guitar was working very very well.
Playability:
This guitar has been lovingly set up by Jon, one of the UK’s most highly regarded and experienced guitar techs.
That doesn’t mean this guitar is the best playing guitar ever, it just means that he has taken the time to set it up. Adjust the action, intonation etc so that it plays as well as can be expected and stays in tune as good as any guitar of this type does.
We all have differing styles and demands from our instruments. Some of us like fast n low actions for fretboard burning licks, others prefer a high n mightly action for show stopping windmills and downtuned heavy riffing and everything in between. No one set up suits all!
This specific guitar has been set up sympathetically for it’s style so has a fairly low action, and minimal fret buzzing.
Case: Comes with a third party fitted SKB hard case (the original case is not with the guitar)
