Summary:
Here we have an absolute darling of a guitar. Flashback to my young teen years! A real dream.
It really is in remarkable condition (see later notes for details) with a wonderful right for type age related patina that gives this guitar an extremely ‘cool vibe’. Bags of mojo, bags of sustain, this really is THE one you want.
Not quite a fretless wonder, but does have a wonderful comfy fat n flat feel to it, exactly as it should be, AND it’s a whopper at 10lbs 15oz !
Good playability thanks to our in-house tech and all original AND with THAT gorgeous plastic ‘chainsaw’ Gibson hard case in truly excellent condition. Have a CLOSE LOOK at our photos in particular the full length ones!!! Feel free to get in touch with any queries, part ex etc We’re a well known high street guitar shop in Poole, come say hi !
Model: Gibson Les Paul Custom
Model no:
Year built: 1980
Weight: 10lb 15oz / 4.95kg (approx)
Hard case or Gig Bag? – Yes, original Gibson ‘Chainsaw’ ABS plastic hard case, in really good condition with NO broken clasps.
Body Condition: 8/10
From a few feet away it looks excellent. On close inspection you will find some signs of wear and tear, but mostly minor. Some minor dents, minor scratches, polishing swirls, nothing major or structural. It’s an old guitar but in really good condition considering. No breaks or structural damage.
Not much evidence of buckle rash on the back either but some light scratches, minor indentations and polishing swirls.
Neck: 8/10
The frets have been used, fret dressed, gigged, fret dressed but still have many many years of life left in them. Yes, they are a bit flat and low but we’ve seen plenty lower. Personally we would NOT ruin this guitar by getting it re-fretted. This guitar is exactly what you’d expect, so love it for being that.
There are some very minor signs of age related wear on the fretboard but general wear and tear is much below what you’d expect.
Hardware: 8/10
The machineheads seem to be original and in good working order, some extremely light signs of tarnish.
The stop tail and saddles are also in very good condition with signs of ageing and tarnished commensurate with age.
Electrics: 9/10
Sockets, pots and switches etc are wear and tear items. The electrics on this guitar have been tested and are in excellent working order, but my standard disclaimer is it’s a used guitar and one must expect SOME occasional electrical ‘scratching’ noise, crackling and popping when adjusting pots and switches. In our opinion the electrics on this guitar exhibit less than average ‘noise’ in normal play but there’s no guarantee how long they will stay in this condition.
Playability:
This guitar has been lovingly set up by Jon, one of the UK’s most highly regarded and experienced guitar techs.
That doesn’t mean this guitar is the best playing guitar ever, it just means that he has taken the time to set it up. Adjust the action, intonation etc so that it plays as well as can be expected and stays in tune as good as any guitar of this type does.
We all have differing styles and demands from our instruments. Some of us like fast n low actions for fretboard burning licks, others prefer a high n mightly action for show stopping windmills and downtuned heavy riffing and everything in between. No one set up suits all!
This specific guitar has been set up sympathetically for it’s style so has a fairly low action, and minimal fret buzzing.
Case: Yes, original Gibson ‘Chainsaw’ ABS plastic hard case, in really good condition with NO broken clasps.
