USED Echoplex 3 tape delay echo effects unit
Summary:
This unit has been recently serviced by JB Amp Repairs and comes with a service / repair report (see photos).
It looks as though it has been modded with a cutom pulley to facilitate slower speeds.
I can’t comment further on that.
So I am sure this doesn’t need too much of an introduction. The classic, famous echo unit, the type of which has been used by so many famous guitarists like Brian May, Jimmy Page, Van Halen and even Chet Atkins to name but a few.
The unit has been stripped down and serviced by JB Amp Repairs of Dorset (receipt available) with various internal components eg Caps replaced where necessary.
In pretty good physical condition with only few marks on the box and a few scuffs here and there. The handle is missing / broken but the clasp works. The ‘jewel’ over the lamp is present and the lamp is still working.
One of the cassette cover screws is missing.
In operation it seems to be working fine (video available).
HOWEVER – the “sound on sound” setting is confusing to me. It has a pre recording of someone playing guitar that I can’t seem to record over, but I have also been able to record a passage into it, but it seems to take around 2-3 minutes to ‘loop’. Maybe this is normal, maybe not but declared here for honesty and transparency.
Any info on this would be appreciated !!
The echo tone is reasonably true and relatively ‘clean’ when demonstrated with a Fender Strat, a higher output Gibson guitar made the unit distort more, which one would expect. I believe the ‘gain’ can be adjusted for taste.
Pots and switches:
The pots seem to be working fine with very little evidence of scratchiness / noise as they were cleaned as part of the service.
The footswitch sockets are in working order. When a simple latching one way footswitch was connected to the ‘recording’ socket the corresponding ‘recording’ light was extinguised.
When a simple one way footswitch was connected to the ‘echo’ socket, it was evident that the echo / repeat wqs muted with just the original guitar ‘through’ signal audible.
Age – unknown
Comes with a spare cassette tape (untested).
We are no expert with these units and I have done my best to give you my frank and honest appraisal of this. If you have more experience and / or tips to help it will really really be appreciated and this listing WILL BE amended as more info / test results found.
